Michigan LISC is supporting Urban Neighborhood Initiatives to develop and implement a strategic plan that brings together organizations currently involved in park and greenway planning initiatives of their own. The result will be a comprehensive agenda that identifies, conceptualizes and outlines proposed short-term projects for immediate action while also recommending long-term strategies. Quality open space is vital to the health of a community. Neighborhood greenways, green spaces, and park development portray a picture of the quality of life offered there, help to attract new residents and businesses, and bring stability to neighborhoods.
As a local site, Michigan LISC has access to National LISC's Green Development Center which supports our efforts to accelerate the integration of sustainability principles in the development of low-income neighborhoods. Likewise, our Affordable Housing Preservation Initiative is making green principles an integral part of its strategy to improve the physical, economic, and financial sustainability of existing affordable housing.
