About LISC Jacksonville

LISC Jacksonville is a convener, an investor, and a capacity builder. LISC Jacksonville is a bridge between capital and communities. As a local office of the the Local Initiaitves Support Corporation (LISC), the largest community development organization in the United States, our reach is national and our impact is local. LISC Jacksonville is a creative leader in community revitalization and a strong advocate for equitable development in diverse low-income communities. We partner with residents and community-based organizations in Jacksonville to spark neighborhood transformation and build healthy, sustainable neigborhoods (EPIC Communities)

Mission, History Vision

The Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) helps residents transform distressed neighborhoods into healthy, sustainable communities -- good places to live, work, do business and raise children. In 1999, the Community Foundation, the Jessie Ball duPont Fund, the Jacksonville Jaguars Foundation and Mayor John Delaney invited LISC (the largest community development support organization in the US) to bring its community development model to Jacksonville.

Since then, LISC Jacksonville has invested over $61 million in Jacksonville's urban core and leveraged over $186 million from outside sources for homes, apartments and commercial spaces in Jacksonville's distressed neighborhoods. These investments include:

  • Establishing and and financing seven nonprofit Community Development Corporations (CDC's) to implement LISC's work,
  • Financing and Building 295 quality homes in targeted disadvantaged neighborhoods,
  • Renovating 1,400 affordable-housing rental units,
  • Creating more than 233,300 square feet of commercial space,
  • Creating more than 3,000 jobs,
  • Providing recreational spaces through nine NFL playing fields,
  • Creating, designing and implementing the EPIC Community Initiative in two Jacksonville neighborhoods,
  • Reducing crime by 40-50% in targeted neighborhoods,
  • Working with HABIJAX to revitalize the Kings Road commercial corridor.

LISC also has assisted in the following major civic projects

  • The Jessie Ball duPont Center,
  • The KIPP School
  • 9 NFL Recreational Fields,and
  • Mayfair Village (a multi family project providing transitional housing for homeless families).
