AmeriCorps is a program of the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS). Established in 1993, the mission of CNCS is to improve lives, strengthen communities, and foster civic engagement through service and volunteering. AmeriCorps programs support a wide range of locally based solutions by engaging thousands of Americans in intensive community service each year. This service results in creating positive changes to some of our nation’s most challenged neighborhoods, as well as inspiring an individual sense of purpose and pride in the volunteers.

The mission of the LISC AmeriCorps program is to transform distressed neighborhoods into healthy communities by placing AmeriCorps members with non-profit partners. LISC’s AmeriCorps program plays a pivotal role in helping citizens realize their vision for an economically stable neighborhood comprised of residents with living-wage jobs, who have access to affordable housing and do business in a thriving commercial district. AmeriCorps members frequently serve at Financial Opportunity Centers, assist with the development of affordable housing in low-income communities, and work with neighborhood leaders in citizen engagement, community building, and rejuvenating business corridors.

On September 27, LISC Jacksonville welcomed 10 new AmeriCorps members, who will work with LISC's partner agencies in their urban redevelopment initiatives.  Participating partners and their AmeriCorps members are:
