Problem Properties

Problem properties, whether residential or commercial, create costly problems for cities and already struggling neighborhoods. They drain city budgets, detract from quality of life, and impede neighborhood redevelopment. Vacant and foreclosed properties often turn into a nuisance for communities, serving as a haven for illegal activity.

CSI’s experience demonstrates that working together, community developers and police can literally “build out of crime” by replacing crime-producing, nuisance properties with new or renovated commercial and residential developments. For example, partners can rehabilitate a notorious drug house into attractive multi-family housing or reduce prostitution on a commercial strip by refurbishing storefronts, adding lighting and building new retail space that increases foot traffic.
